2011 Report
In 2011 the committee recruited and scheduled
teachers for three Sunday School classes: for younger children,
older children, and adults. The committee wishes to express its
thanks to all the Sunday School teachers who have served so
faithfully during this year.
Pastor Lance continues to lead two weekly Bible study
classes, one on Tuesday mornings and the other Wednesday evenings,
both of which have a loyal group of participants.
This year “Shake-It-Up Café” was the Vacation Church
School theme for 5 nights at the end of June. Pastor Lance lead the
adult class in a study of foods in the Bible. Thanks to all who
helped with and attended this year’s VCS, and special thanks to the
Kitchen and Fellowship Committee for the meals they prepared each
night.
Again this year Sunday School classes have been
collecting healthy snacks the first of each month for students at
Saluda River Academy of the Arts who are provided meals at the
school during the week but who often go hungry on the weekends. The
committee appreciates the continuing response to this appeal.
This fall the committee made grants to three
beginning teachers at Saluda River Academy for the Art from the
Gurnelle Coker Teacher Assistance Fund. The fund was recently
established with monies given in memory of Mrs. Coker and is
intended to help defray the cost classroom supplies, which those who
are beginning their teaching career would otherwise have to pay for
themselves. We are encouraging further contributions to this fund
to make it an ongoing source of assistance for our neighbor school.
Again this fall we are remembering each of our
college students at exam time with Subway gift cards.
Thanks to all our teachers, superintendents, and
helpers for volunteering their service in education ministry during
2011.
