2011 Report
This committee oversees the process by which gifts to the church are
accepted, acknowledged, and recorded. Particular attention is given
to proposed gifts of tangible items, either outright gifts or those
to be purchased with monetary contributions made to the church in
memory or in honor of someone. The committee endeavors to identify
items that would benefit the congregation as well as to note which
earlier gifts are no longer in use. This committee works with the
pastor and congregational council to see that agreed-upon guidelines
governing memorials and gifts and their dedication and presentation
are followed.
In 2011, Stewardship and Finance Committee assisted with the
transition to computerized financial record-keeping and its impact
on memorial and gift procedures. The chairperson of the
Communications Committee worked with the chairperson of Memorials
and Gifts Committee to establish an online photo inventory of the
church building’s contents; this online record will be maintained to
reflect new acquisitions as well as withdrawal of items.
The following worship furnishings were acquired in 2011 with the
help of designated or undesignated portions of the Memorial and Gift
Fund of the church: altar linens, tapestry banner for the green
season, pair of banner stands. Chafing dishes, glassware serving
pieces, round tables and tablecloths, beverage pitchers, and
stacking chair carts were obtained for the church kitchen and
fellowship hall. Pastor Henderson’s photo portrait was completed
for the gallery in the Cameron Building, and a new mini-refrigerator
was provided for the sacristy. At the close of 2011, the
congregational council approved, at the recommendation of this
committee and Terry Coker, establishment of the Gurnelle Coker
Teacher Assistance Fund. Its seed money consists of contributions
to the church in memory of Mrs. Coker.
